But before everyone heads out for a few weeks of rest, it’s worth making sure school-issued laptops, tablets, and other tech are set up to survive the season. Keep Devices Out of the Cold: Cold weather can shorten battery life and cause internal condensation once devices warm back up. Store them indoors, and never leave them in cars or garages. 3. **Update Before You Leave**: Winter break is the perfect time to run system and security updates as there are no class interruptions and no waiting on downloads when you’re back in school. 4. **Avoid “Always Plugged In” Mode**: Leaving a device plugged in for weeks can wear down the battery. Also, plugged in devices create tripping hazards that can cause serious damage. Fully charge, then unplug before putting your device away. 5. **Plan Ahead with device Protection**: Even careful students have accidents.
